Pact is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve adopted children of color. We believe adopted people deserve to know their full heritage and should have access to all of their records and birth history. We are committed to offering support and the very best resources to help adopted people of color cope with a world whose attitudes too often reflect "adoptism" and racism. We are a multicultural organization from top to bottom. Our staff and board of directors are racially diverse and reflect all positions of the adoption triad. We believe that same-race adoption is easier for children and that transracial adoption can work beautifully. We believe adopted children and adults deserve as much information about and connection to their birth heritage as possible, so that adoption can be something more than an either/or situation demanding a choice between one family or cultural history and another. We believe that people thrive when they have the opportunity and support to explore all aspects of their identity. We believe it is a violation of adopted peoples civil rights that most states carry laws which make them the only group of adults prevented from having direct access from their original birth certificate. We support open records.
