If you are considering adoption but are not yet sure that it is a path you want to pursue, we can provide you with information about adoption and help you sort out your thoughts and feelings about this life-changing experience. Questions we will explore together include:

  • Why are you thinking about adoption?
  • How does your family feel?
  • What experience do you have with adoption?
  • What are your goals?
  • How does your excitement about adoption compare to the excitement of trying for a pregnancy?
  • Why haven't you adopted already? Why is now the right time to adopt?
  • Are you prepared for the emotional stress of the adoption process?
  • Are you emotionally ready to become a parent tomorrow? Next month?
  • How do you handle situations which require instant decision-making?
  • How do you anticipate adoption will affect you? Your family? Your children?

Becoming a family through adoption is different than becoming one through giving birth - we know that if those differences are acknowledged and embraced, you and your child are much more likely to be successful in creating the close connection and family bond that you are hoping for.

Please note this is a different consultation than the one required for all families applying to adopt through Pact (see Pre-Placement Consultation). This session will help you consider if adoption is something you want to pursue, without specifically focusing on Pact's placement services.

For the paperwork you'll need prior to scheduling and paying for your consultation, please download the forms below. If you have questions, please contact us at consult@pactadopt.org or (510) 243-9460.
