Pact has long been known as a wisdom bank for information about multicultural and family diversity books and how to use them with young children. Pact has reviewed more than 1500 of the thousands of multicultural and family diversity books that exist for adults and children. Of those, we choose approximately 100 titles per year that we consider as some of the most outstanding. The selections are thought provoking, discussion inducing, informative, enlightening and just plain terrific reads. So - read them aloud, spread the word about them and pass them on to other readers, young and old. You can purchase our favorite books through our webstore. Remember 100% of the profits from book sales go towards our programs serving children of color touched by adoption and their families. If you are interested in downloading our list of favorites, you can do so by clicking here to get Pact's BookSource. But just knowing about books is not enough. We all hear that reading is good for children but many parents don't know how to start or how to make reading fun for their kids. They are looking for help in deciding how to choose books for themselves and particularly their children. Parents as well as clinicians and educators are often looking for strategies for how to use books to jumpstart important conversations with children about their feelings and concerns about race and adoption. An excellent resource on these topics is Mirrors & Windows, a booklet about using books with young children written by Pact for parents and teachers. We offer several articles listed below that help you answer these questions. Every issue of our newsletter, Pact Point of View, which is included with your membership in Pact contains additional information on these topics as well as honest book reviews that will give you up to date information on new books and timeless favorites as well as books that we believe contain toxic information for children of color and/or those touched by adoption. Remember Pact is a lifelong resource for families of color touched by adoption. Our mission to serve adopted children of color and their families, serves you and your family by keeping you current on the latest thinking and ideas for how we can all best be served. |
