adopted children at Pact family camp Children who are placed for adoption in the midst of trauma respond by internalizing the experience. They need help to understand and manage the emotional pain on top of whatever other trauma’s led to their placement. Topics include recruitment and reasons for adopting waiting children, what happens to youth who don’t get adopted, and lots of articles to help foster parents understand children’s behaviors in reaction to what has happened to them.

Pact offers services that support adopted children and youth of color, including many who were adopted through foster care; we also work closely with adopted adults, many of whom have experienced foster care and are ideally suited to serve as mentors for the children coming up behind them. Supporting children and youth often means supporting their parents: through our online chat groups, our educational workshops and conferences, our nationally acclaimed Pact Family Camp, one-on-one consultations, and regional parent-organized affiliates in Northern California, Southern California, and throughout the U.S. Become a member of Pact to take advantage of all these resources and to receive our newsletter, Pact’s Point of View, which features articles on the many aspects of adoption, including older-child adoption and the impact of trauma on development. Pact members receive a discount at our online bookstore, which features great reads on adoption, parenting, and race carefully selected for both adults and kids of all ages. We also recommend blogs and other online resources that we believe have the very best advice and information for adoptive families of children of color about adoption, race, and parenting.
