Teachers and administrators at children's schools are there to support
families even though they don't always understand the special issues unique
to adoption. Everything from dealing with teachers and staff to assignments,
choosing schools and handling "problems" when they arise will be covered.
The first half of the workshop will focus on how school kids think about
adoption as preschoolers, school-aged kids and adolescents and the
implications for curriculum and parent interactions with their child’s
school as well as how to choose the right school for your child and when and
how to advocate for your child when adoption issues arise? The second half
will focus on learning and curriculum related issues, which often arise with
adopted kids and approaches to handling privacy issues for children in
school when they are asked about their adoption information and status.
