A one-hour workshop that begins with Gail Steinberg’s stories of her four children and their different reactions and pathways through adolescence that is followed by Dr. Crumbley providing a framework for the normal tasks that adopted tweens and teens must address and are likely go through. He emphasizes the diversity within the culture and underscores the danger of seeing African American culture as a monolith. He also discusses the ways in which targeting and challenges faced by the community have resulted in changes and growth in the developed culture, training children to handle direct racism, creating connections to mentors & communities that reflect children’s experiences. Talking with Children About Adoption

He discusses the issues that adopted children need to process that are different than children who are born into their families.
