Pact, An Adoption Alliance Support Groups & Chat Lists

Why Pact Believes In Parent-Led Groups & Chat Lists

We believe that it is important for parents and children to have "safe" zones where they can discuss their ideas and issues and spend time together with other folks who share their concerns. We believe that inserting our "professional" opinions into these discussions would change the tenor of the conversations and interactions that happen in these groups in a very significant way. We have had long talks at Pact about this, and have decided that staying outside of the parents' discussions will be our policy. Support groups established by parents who are Pact members can serve as a forum for children to meet other children with similar family structures and experiences to their own while their adoptive parents discuss issues and exchange information and opinions themselves. We hope that this policy will allow these extremely important connections to flourish. Many of you already know Pact's point of view on topics related to parenting children of color through adoption because you read our newsletter and/or attend our educational events. If you are interested in Pact's viewpoint on race, adoption and parenting, please visit our website, www.pactadopt.org.
