Pact Family Educational Program & Gathering

52 Ways to Talk with Children about Adoption

Children's Programming Closed, we are unable to accept walk in registration for children.

Join Pact Director, Beth Hall,  and other Pact families for an afternoon of education and social connection in the West LA area.   There will be a children’s program  that will include child care and some supportive curriculum for adoptees and their non-adopted siblings as well as adult programing from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm followed by an hour of  family connection and an ice-cream social.

There will be an optional potluck held from 12:30-2:00, we would love to see you there!

(potluck open to registrants only)

Adult Curriculum: Steadfast in the belief that children’s adjustment to adoption is fostered by their parents’ desire, comfort level, and ability to engage in open communication with their children about adoption, our approach will be one which encourages families to talk about adoption in a fun and interesting way. Hear from Beth Hall about how kids understand adoption at different ages and stages, including research-based knowledge that will give parents information about how children process the experience. We will utilize the newly developed game “52 Ways to Talk about Adoption with Children" to give parents ideas about how to stimulate conversations in age appropriate ways. This workshop will provide the opportunity for parents to practice responses and share ideas about how to respond to questions from adopted children as well as questions from outsiders, including those asked in from of children and those asked when they are not present.

Children’s Curriculum:  Young children and youth often have questions and feelings about adoption and race as they are learning to navigate a world that does not always support their full identity. We will devise age appropriate activities for children in the program to acknowledge and address issues related to their multiple identities as well as having other age appropriate activities to promote fun and community for the younger set.
