Adoptive Parents of Color Circle Gathering- Launch Party

Pact’s Adoptive Parents of Color Circle is open to all adoptive parents of color and their families whether they adopted through Pact or not—including families formed by foster-adoption, kinship adoption, international or domestic placement.

We offer two kinds of programs: events exclusively for adoptive parents of color alternate with events for the whole family, including parenting partners who may or may not be parents of color themselves. Children (both those who are adopted and their non-adopted siblings) are welcome at all events; supervised activities will be available so that parents can have conversations with other adults!

Launch Party

Join us for our launch party/potluck for our new Adoptive Parents of Color Circle group.  This will be a fun evening of community-building, games, and informal discussion. Come tell us what Adoptive Parents of Color (APoC) events you would like to see in the future and what parenting issues are on your minds. Some of Pact’s amazing youth counselors will be on hand to facilitate games and activities for children and parents to enjoy together. We will have great food, music, and good times!

Hosted By: Malaika Parker

Malaika Parker works with adoptive parents of color (and their parenting partners) to design resources and create community for same-race adoptive families. As an African American adoptive parent, she understands how hard-and important-it is for same-race adoptive parents to find resources that apply to their own family dynamics as opposed to those that apply to transracial families.

"As Pact's Family of Color Specialist and an African American adoptive mother myself, I want to introduce myself and invite you to join me in creating community around adoption for adoptive parents of color (and their parenting partners).  Too often adoption is seen as a second-best way to become a family. At Pact, we are looking at ways to support adoptive families of color better by providing safe spaces for discussion and growth that are specific to our experiences as people of color."
