WEBINAR: What Adopted Children Ages Ten to Twelve years old (and their Parents) Need to Know
What Adopted Children Ages Ten to Twelve years old (and their Parents) Need to Know At Different Ages and Stages Parents of adopted kids often ask, “Why is my child acting like that? Is it because of development? Adoption? Race? Something else?” A tweens job is to figure out who he or she is in the world. The tween years, which can start as young as nine or ten, have often been compared with the preschool years because of the dramatic changes that occur during the move to greater independence. Tweens develop a new ability to be introspective and analytical and often embrace new views of the world, some of which may be challenging to their parents. Emotionally, they are getting messages from media and often peers, that they should begin to separate from their family but most of them are not really ready to do so. For adopted kids of color, this will raise adoption and genetic as well as racial and heritage issues often on a deeper level than has ever come up for them before. Featured Speaker:
