Attachment for Babies & Toddlers
Parents often worry about how attachment works—especially in adoption. Adoptive parents need to understand how their personal experiences and their child-to-be’s prior losses and possible traumas can affect attachment. Families growing through adoption can experience attachment challenges. Those challenges can be alleviated when parents are prepared in advance to lead the attachment process, identifying and resolving their own losses and challenges, preparing themselves psychologically for adoptive parenthood, understanding the psychological and physical needs their new children bring to the process and creating an environment to nurture attachment. This webinar is appropriate for pre-adoptive parents and recent adoptive parents as well as adoption professionals.
- Attachment will be defined and its process explained.
- Pre-adoptive parents be will embrace the need to feel expectant and begin the preparation process.
- Parents will learn the importance of facing their own attachment challenges.
- The specific needs of infants and toddlers for attaching in families will be explored.
- Participants will acquire knowledge about sensory learning and its role in attachment
- Possible symptoms of challenged attachment will be presented and suggested ways to alleviate them will be provided.
