Adult Programing

Join us for a panel presentation including Beth Hall, Pact’s Executive Director, Jamie Nunez, Bay Area Regional Manager for Common Sense Media and adult adoptees to speak to their personal experience with social media. How can we be curious and therefore more supportive about our child's social media interactions—particularly as they relate to adoption? 

Following this general session discussing the current intersection of the Internet and adoption experience, participants will have the opportunity to choose a break out group to discuss

  • Creating family social media plans with Jamie Nunez 

Explore how to best approach screen time use and engagement across various ages & stages of development. Discover ways parents can help their children develop digital wellness skills. This is your chance to bring your questions and get them answered by an expert on digital wellbeing.

  • Using social media for search & reunion with Susan Dusza Guerra Leksander, Pact's Adoption Agency Supervisor

Hear from adoptees who will share some of their own experience and perspective with online search and reunion sites as well as ongoing community they have found via Internet connections. Learn from the lived experience of those who are ready to share both the positives and the challenges inherent to the social media world of adoption.

  • Parenting approaches for supporting children online  with Beth Hall

Overcoming our own fears and learning how to approach difficult topics must be part of every adoptive parent’s agenda as we support our children in navigating the inherently complex reality of being adopted and the pervasive cyberworld they are part of. Discussion will include how to support youth rather than supposing that parents can somehow control or limit their children’s access to social media

Youth Program

A concurrent program with trained mentors and allies will be available for children five years old and up. All children must be registered by November 15th, 2020. Counselors will work with children and youth to discuss social media use and where they see the struggles and challenges to finding balance and safety in digital spaces.

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to provide child care for children under five at this event; no children allowed in adult program.
